Misclassification of Truck Drivers as Independent Contractors
Background
Settlement Amount: $7,500,000
Case Name: Sales, et al., v. United Road
Case Number: United States District Court, Northern District of California, Case No. 4:19-cv-08404-JST
Hunter Pyle Law, along with co-counsel, represented a class of truck drivers who were misclassified as independent contractors when under California law they should have been classified as employees. As a result, the defendant failed to reimburse them for work-related expenses such as fuel, tolls, and maintenance on their vehicles. After several years of litigation, the Honorable Jon S. Tigar certified a class after a contested certification motion. The case was then settled in the amount of $7,500,000 for the class of approximately 300 individuals.
